Portrait of Christophe Gevers

Christophe Gevers’ approach was a complete art from a double point of view: on one side, in the generally accepted sense of the mastery of all elements comprising an ensemble, but also in the extent that he mastered all the steps of the creative chain, from the first idea to the finished project.

Christophe Gevers (1928-2007) can be summed up in a few key words:
Interior architect and designer.
Teacher at La Cambre as head of the “Mobilier & Agencement” workshop for 33 years.
Self-taught.
Artisan creator of his own models and prototypes.
Brutalist before his time.
The Belgian interior architect and designer Christophe Gevers remains unclassifiable and unparalleled. Repertoires of his creations exist, but they merely include official projects that the public is familiar with.
Gevers offered to his clients a complete project, drawing each element down to the most minute details. He liked to make strong statements.
Brutalist before its time, he incorporated rough concrete to these interiors in a spectacular manner: spiral staircase, chimney with fireplace, table…
There is also Christophe Gevers, the designer. Lighting is probably the area in which he shows the most affinity. But we mostly remember the first TBA chair. designed for the Taverne des Beaux-Arts, a restaurant of the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels built by Victor Horta.
